50 YEARS OF THE OPEL GT

The first concept car to become a series-production comes to Verona

Opel Fans Italy celebrated its 50th anniversary together with the Opel GT: the quick, responsive two-seater sports coupe with slim, original lines, a sales champion in the United States and star of races like the Targa Florio. The Opel GT, a model launched in 1968 dating back to the “Experimental Concept” prototype, introduced in 1965, a car created based on the Kadett B, with a 1900cc 90hp engine, derived from the engine on its contemporary Rekord B. Buyers had to wait 3 years before it was brought to market, which happened in September 1968 at the Paris Motor Show. Few people knew that the Opel created a historical precedent in doing so: for the first time in Europe, a concept car became a series-produced automobile.
